Oil Monarchies

Oil Monarchies: Domestic and Security Challenges in the Arab Gulf States
Author(s): F. Gregory Gause
Format: Book

Gregory Gause is one of the best scholars of the Gulf, and this book is a good example of why.

It discusses in simple language how political systems work in the rentier states of the Gulf. The book is ten years old, and the sections on political institutions are now outdated, but the explanations of the bases of power are as relevant as ever.
